Navarathri and Diwali are approaching and its time to light diyas and give return gifts with the "Tamboolam". Most of our homes must have a pile of CD (compact discs) which are unused waiting to be discarded. Please dont throw! Try this DIY craft to up-cycle these unused CD's. 

    All you need to do is scrap off the thin flim off the CD/DVD. Paint it with acrylic colours - 2 coats. Now its time to be creative and try some new designs of your choice and materials available at  your disposal. You could use mirrors, beads, string beads, shells, chamkis, pista shells, kundan stones etc. Even try with stone bindhis. In the center you could place a mud lamp or a candle. Ta-Da your return gifts or decorative Diya's are ready.

      Online shopping has left us with a large number of cardboard boxes used in packing these deliverables. A variety of things can be done by reusing or up-cycling these cardboard boxes. Some of these include use as organizers by wrapping with gift wrappers, pen holders, DIY organizer for dresses, degradable plant holders etc. However, my creative mind always wanted to do something decorative to hang in my house. Thus I came up with this idea! For this art I had used cardboard boxes cut into specific shapes and wrapped then with felt paper. Mirrors, beads, jewellery making raw materials and silk threads were used to decorate the animals. They were roped together with a twine and wooden beads were used in between to add colour to the entire craft work. In the free end a hand made tazzle added finish to the work.
